The Baroque minor basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wambierzyce, known as the "Silesian Jerusalem", is one of the most important places of Marian devotion in Lower Silesia. The church was built between 1715 and 1723, funded by Count Franz Anton von Goetzen.
The origins of the cult date back to the 12th century, when a wooden figure of the Mother of God was placed in a hollow of a tree. A miraculous healing in 1218 gave rise to the pilgrimages. In 1936, Pope Pius XI granted the church the title of minor basilica. On 17 August 1980, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński crowned the figure, giving it the title of Queen of Families.
Since 25 June 2007, the sanctuary has been in the care of the Franciscans (Order of Friars Minor) of the Province of St Hedwig.
