St. Joseph's Sanctuary in Wadowice

A monastery complex of the Discalced Carmelites known as "Wadowicka Górka" (Wadowice Hill). The Carmelites settled in Wadowice in 1892; between 1897 and 1899 they erected a Neo-Romanesque church of red brick, consecrated on 27 August 1899. In 1906 St. Rafał Kalinowski became prior.

Devotion and significance

A centre of devotion to St. Joseph, Our Lady of the Scapular and St. Rafał Kalinowski. In 2004 Cardinal Franciszek Macharski granted the church the title of sanctuary. Karol Wojtyła (John Paul II) was associated with this place.
