Sanctuary of St Joseph in Jemielnica

A former Cistercian monastery complex with the Sanctuary of St Joseph. The Cistercians were brought to Jemielnica in the 1280s by Duke Bolko I of Opole. New monastery buildings were founded in 1307 by Duke Bolko I and expanded by his son Albert. The Cistercians remained until the dissolution in 1810.

What to see

A three-nave basilica with a Gothic presbytery and a late Baroque western part, the main altar from 1734, the chapel of St Joseph with a crypt (1714), works by the Silesian master Michael Willmann, and a Baroque tower.
