St. Mary's Basilica in Gdańsk

Location and surroundings

The church is located in the heart of the Main Town in Gdańsk, on Podkramarska Street, between Mariacka and Piwna streets.

History

The cornerstone of the present church was laid on 25 March 1343, and construction was carried out in stages over about 159 years. It is considered the largest brick church in the world; it is about 105 m long, and its vault is supported by 26 pillars.

What to see

Monumental star and crystal vaults, a 15th-century astronomical clock and the unfinished tower about 82 m high with a viewing terrace.
