Trail to Morskie Oko

The most popular tourist route in the Polish Tatras leads from the Palenica Białczańska car park to Morskie Oko – the largest Tatra lake. The route follows a historic road built in 1902.

Location and surroundings

The trail is in the Tatra National Park; it starts at Palenica Białczańska (approx. 990 m above sea level) and finishes at Morskie Oko (approx. 1395 m above sea level). Surface: asphalt and stone cobbles.

What to see

  • Mickiewicz Waterfalls (Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza)
  • Włosienica (a former glade, today a rest area)
  • The PTTK mountain lodge at Morskie Oko (the old lodge from 1891)
  • Morskie Oko lake and a walk around the lake (approx. 1 h)

Who it is for

A route accessible to a wide range of tourists; the lower sections are partly adapted for wheelchairs.

Infrastructure

Highlander horse-drawn carriages (fasiągi) run from Palenica to Włosienica; the last section is covered on foot.
