The primatial basilica stands on Lech Hill in Gniezno, regarded as Poland's first capital, about 50 km from Poznań.

History

The present Gothic building dates from the 14th-16th centuries. The cathedral is the sanctuary of St. Adalbert and the site of the coronations of Poland's first rulers.

What to see

The famous Romanesque Gniezno Doors from the 12th century with 18 scenes from the life of St. Adalbert, the relics of St. Adalbert, the crypts and a viewing terrace.
