Lublin Archcathedral

Location and surroundings

The cathedral is situated at Cathedral Square in Lublin, by the walls of the Old Town, next to the Trinitarian Tower.

History

The church was built between 1586 and 1604 for the Jesuits to a design by Giovanni Maria Bernardoni. In the 18th century, Józef Meyer decorated the interior with illusionistic polychromes.

What to see

An ebony altar, a 14th-century baptismal font, the painting of Our Lady of Częstochowa (the so-called Lublin miracle of 1949), the unique Acoustic Sacristy, the treasury and the crypts with the tombs of bishops.

  • A single ticket covers the treasury, the crypts and the Acoustic Sacristy
  • Next to the cathedral stands the Trinitarian Tower with a viewing terrace (40 m, 207 steps) and the Archdiocesan Museum

Visiting is possible daily outside service times; usually Tuesday to Saturday 10:00-16:00.
