Cathedral Basilica in Frombork

Location and surroundings

The cathedral is the oldest building on the Cathedral Hill in Frombork by the Vistula Lagoon, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The hill ranks among monuments of the highest class.

History

The Gothic cathedral was built between 1329 and 1388. The place is associated with Nicolaus Copernicus, a canon of the Warmian cathedral chapter, who spent a large part of his life here and worked on his treatise On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres. His tomb is located in the cathedral.
