Opole Cathedral

Location and surroundings

The cathedral stands on Katedralna Street in the old town of Opole and is one of the city's most recognisable buildings.

History

The present church was built in the 15th century on the site of earlier churches from the 11th and 13th centuries and was rebuilt many times; after 1470 the body was converted into a hall church. In 1972 it was elevated to the dignity of a cathedral. Entered in the register of monuments (1964).

The towers about 73 m high (the tallest building in the city), Gothic and later interior elements, and the furnishings of the church.
