Church of the Assumption of the BVM and St. Michael the Archangel in Haczów

A Gothic wooden church considered to be the largest and one of the oldest wooden log-construction churches in Europe. Erected in the first half of the 15th century, it was decorated with a monumental figural polychrome in 1494.

  • Destruction during the Tatar invasion in 1624, followed by reconstruction
  • Thorough restoration 1784-1789
  • Reconsecration after conservation: 13 November 2000

UNESCO

Inscribed in 2003 on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the group "Wooden Churches of Southern Lesser Poland" (despite its administrative location in the Subcarpathian region).
