Czołpino Lighthouse

A lighthouse located in the heart of the Słowiński National Park, on a dune amid forests, far from any buildings. The tower is 25.2 m high, and thanks to its location on an elevation the light reaches 75 m above sea level.

Location and surroundings

Czołpino, Smołdzino commune, in the Słowiński National Park, near the shifting dunes; the approach leads along a path through the forest.

History

Construction was carried out between 1872 and 1875 to a design by engineer E. Kummer; difficult terrain meant that building material was delivered by sea on barges. Completed on 15 January 1875. The tower has a diameter of about 7 m at the base. The original oil-fuelled Fresnel apparatus was in time replaced by electric power.

What to see

A viewing terrace with a panorama of the dunes, forests and the Baltic; the lighthouse itself is in very good condition and still operational.
