Gdańsk Nowy Port Lighthouse

A historic octagonal lighthouse in the Gdańsk district of Nowy Port, modelled on the lighthouse in Cleveland, USA. The tower is about 31.3 m high. It was the first lighthouse on the Baltic to use electric light. It also served as a harbour pilots' tower. It is now decommissioned as a navigational lighthouse and open as a museum.

History

Built between 1893 and 1894, commissioned in 1894. On 1 September 1939 the signal to begin the shelling of Westerplatte was given from its window. It was decommissioned in 1984 with the commissioning of the lighthouse in the Northern Port. Open to visitors since 2004 (private owner).
