Jastarnia Lighthouse

An operational lighthouse on the Hel Peninsula, in Jastarnia. It is one of the landmarks of the Hel Peninsula and one of only two lighthouses in Poland of metal construction, and at the same time the lowest of this type in the country.

History

The first lighthouse on this site was built in the 1930s and was blown up by Polish sappers in 1939 to keep it from falling into German hands. The present tower was built around 1950 - it was constructed from the metal elements of the former fog horn of the Stilo lighthouse (the steel, conical chimney was transported to Jastarnia and used as the core of the structure).
