The Valley of Death is a place of remembrance commemorating the victims of the mass murders committed by the Germans in the autumn of 1939 against the inhabitants of Bydgoszcz. It is the best-known symbol of the martyrdom of the city's residents.

Location and surroundings

The site is located in the Fordon district of Bydgoszcz, in a picturesque ravine on the Fordon Escarpment, within the Vistula Landscape Park, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

History

In the autumn of 1939 the Germans carried out mass executions of the inhabitants of Bydgoszcz and the surrounding area here, as part of the so-called Pomeranian Crime. It is the largest mass grave in Bydgoszcz.
