On the grounds managed by the Treblinka Museum, next to the extermination camp (Treblinka II), a penal labour camp (Treblinka I, 1941-1944) operated. The Monument to the Victims of the Labour Camp in Treblinka commemorates around 10,000 people who died of exhaustion or were murdered. The place of executions is located in the forest near the labour camp.
The entire complex (the extermination camp and the penal labour camp as well as the so-called Black Road) covers around 132 ha. The museum has operated as a separate cultural institution since 1 July 2018.
