Museum of Martyrdom in Słońsk

A museum on the grounds of the former prison and concentration camp Sonnenburg. The facility was built as a prison around 1832-1833, and in April 1933 it became one of the first German concentration camps for political opponents of Nazism. On the night of 30 to 31 January 1945, the SS carried out a massacre of 891 prisoners; only four people survived.

History of the museum

The museum was opened on 28 September 1974. In 2013-2014 it was modernised as part of cross-border cooperation with Brandenburg. The Wall of Death has been preserved as the place of executions.
