Barbarka National Memorial

A site of execution and burial of people murdered by the Germans in the autumn of 1939, in the Barbarka forest on the outskirts of Toruń. The German police and the Selbstschutz murdered at least 600 Poles here; the first execution took place on 28 October 1939, the last probably on 6 December 1939. The victims were members of the intelligentsia, clergy and community activists.

Monument

In 2009 a monument designed by Marian Molenda was unveiled, a 3-metre sculpture made of Swedish granite. On the base, plaques were placed with the names of 87 people exhumed from the only preserved mass grave discovered in 1945.
