The underground tunnels in Walim (Rzeczka) were bored as part of the German Riese project from the autumn of 1943 to the beginning of 1945. During the construction, prisoners of a subcamp of the Gross-Rosen concentration camp died. The difficult history of the prisoners' martyrdom is an important part of the exhibitions presented in the underground tunnels, which were opened to tourists in January 1995.
