Death Hill in Pustków

A memorial to the victims of the German forced labour camps operating between 1940 and 1944 on the grounds of the Waffen SS training ground in Pustków. In November 1941 a crematorium was built on top of the hill ("Death Hill") to burn the bodies of murdered prisoners. In total, around 7,500 Jews, 5,000 Soviet prisoners of war and 2,500 Poles died in the camp.

Commemoration

The monument on Death Hill was unveiled in September 1964 (designed by Kazimierz Mierczyński). At the foot of the hill operates the European Centre of Remembrance and Reconciliation with a mini-museum.
