The transit camp (Durchgangslager) at 4 Łąkowa Street in Łódź (then Litzmannstadt) was established in 1939 on the grounds of a former textile factory. It served as a selection point for Poles displaced from the Warta Country as part of the Germanisation campaign. From this point transports were directed to forced labour deep within the Third Reich or to concentration and extermination camps. The site is commemorated by the Monument to the Memory of the Displaced of Łódź.
