District Museum in Leszno

The museum promotes the history and culture of Leszno and the south-western part of Greater Poland. The first museum institution in Leszno was the so-called Native Museum, founded in 1924 at the People's Reading Rooms Society. In December 1949 the institution was entered in the state register of museums.

Collections

The museum holds over 9,000 exhibits. The most recognisable is the collection of Polish painting on rural themes from the 19th and 20th centuries - one of the largest in Poland - as well as portrait painting. The collection includes works by Jacek Malczewski and Leon Wyczółkowski.
