Archaeological and Historical Museum in Elbląg

The oldest museum in Warmia and Masuria, founded on 24 March 1954, occupies two buildings on the grounds of the former Teutonic castle (Malthouse/Podzamcze and a former grammar school from the 16th century). The collection numbers around 115,000 objects.

Collections

Among the most valuable exhibits are 15th-century eyeglasses (some of the oldest in Europe), a medieval gittern, Baroque furniture, pewter vessels, goldsmithery and Elbląg ceramics. The museum presents a reconstruction of a Viking house from the legendary settlement of Truso, discovered in 1982 by the archaeologist Marek Jagodziński.
