The museum gathers more than 20,000 exhibits across thematic departments distributed among four buildings. The main premises and Gallery 72 are located in a former Jesuit college from the first half of the 18th century at 55 Lubelska Street.
The museum houses Gallery 72, which collects modern constructivist painting and geometric abstraction. The Chełm collection of this art is among the largest in Europe. The department of history and nature is located at 57 Lubelska Street, and the department of the art of the Chełm region in a former Uniate Orthodox church at 4 św. Mikołaja Street.
