Ruins of a Gothic castle located on Castle Hill (515.5 m above sea level) in the village of Podzamcze in the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura. It is the largest and most recognisable stronghold of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland and the most popular site on the Trail of the Eagles' Nests.
The castle lies in the village of Podzamcze in Zawiercie County, on a limestone hill among the characteristic Jurassic rock outcrops. Nearby there is a Miniature Park and a stronghold on Birów Hill.
According to accounts, the first fortifications on this site were built as early as the reign of Bolesław the Wry-mouthed. The masonry castle was erected in the times of King Casimir the Great. In 1387 the site was granted to Włodek of Charbinowice, after which it passed into the ownership of the Włodek Sulimczyk family. The castle was destroyed many times: in 1587 it was captured by the troops of Archduke Maximilian, in 1655 it was partially burned by the Swedes during the Deluge, and in 1702 half of the castle burned down as a result of a fire started by the troops of Charles XII.
Gothic ruins from the 14th-15th century with preserved fragments of Renaissance elements. Since 2021 the site has been open with illumination; in winter the Fortress of Light attraction is available.

The site is open all year round; opening hours depend on the season (longer in summer, shorter in winter).
The nearest paid car park is about 300 m from the castle; free parking along the road leading to Podzamcze.
