Castle in Mirów

Ruins of a castle on the Trail of the Eagles' Nests, picturesquely set on a limestone rock ridge, connected by a popular walking route with the neighbouring castle in Bobolice.

Location and surroundings

The castle lies in the village of Mirów (Niegowa municipality, Myszków County) in the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura, on a rocky hill among the outcrops.

History

The castle was built in the mid-14th century, during the reign of Casimir the Great. Initially there was a stone watchtower here subordinate to the nearby castle in Bobolice. The Lis family expanded the watchtower into a knightly castle. During the Swedish Deluge the site was seriously damaged and gradually fell into ruin; it was finally abandoned in 1787.
