Castle in Człuchów

The remains of one of the largest Teutonic defensive complexes, the second largest after Malbork, with a preserved mighty tower.

Location and surroundings

The castle is located in Człuchów (Człuchów district), on an elevation among lakes.

History

Construction of the castle began after 1312, when the Teutonic Order acquired Człuchów; it was completed around 1365. The complex covered about 3 ha. A fire in 1793 was the main cause of the stronghold's decline. Since 2 May 2013 the restored site has been managed by the Regional Museum in Człuchów.
