Ruins of Radosno Castle

Ruins of a medieval castle located at about 770 m above sea level, on a hill on the northern slope of Suchawa, between Sokołowsko and Rybnica Leśna (Mieroszów municipality).

History

The oldest structure probably dates from the second half of the 13th century. The castle was mentioned in 1350 and 1355. In the 14th century defensive walls and outbuildings were added. During the Hussite Wars (1427, 1434) it was besieged; from the 15th century it was occupied by robber knights. In 1497 the Wrocław starost captured and destroyed it on the orders of King Vladislaus Jagiellon.

Condition

The following have survived: a 12-metre lower fragment of the cylindrical defensive tower (originally 7.2 m in diameter) and small ground-level fragments of the residential building; it was surrounded by moats cut into the rock.

Practical information
