Ruins of the Castle in Siewierz

Ruins of the Gothic castle of the Kraków bishops on the Czarna Przemsza River in Siewierz. The masonry castle was built in the 14th century on the site of a wooden stronghold from the end of the 13th century.

History

The masonry part was erected in the second quarter of the 14th century (first mentioned in 1337). In 1443 the Duchy of Siewierz was bought from Duke Wenceslaus I of Cieszyn by the Kraków bishop Zbigniew Oleśnicki - from then on, until the end of the 18th century, it belonged to the Kraków bishops. From the 17th century the Siewierz Tribunal operated here. In the second half of the 15th century it was besieged by Silesian dukes; in 1655 the Swedes reached it.
