Ruins of the Castle in Bodzentyn

Picturesque ruins of the castle (residence) of the Kraków bishops on a hill above the Psarka valley in Bodzentyn.

History

The castle was erected in the 14th century by Bishop Florian of Mokrsko, who fortified the town with defensive walls. In 1410 Władysław Jagiełło stayed here for two days during his pilgrimage to Święty Krzyż. Repeatedly rebuilt by the Kraków bishops - transformed from a defensive function into a residence.

Condition

Preserved high walls with window openings and a 17th-century portal of red sandstone.

The grounds are open, accessible all year round. Admission free.
