Fortalice in Sobków (ruins)

A 16th-century fortalice (palace-fortress complex) on the Nida River in Sobków, about 25 km from Kielce and 15 km from Jędrzejów. Inside the mighty defensive wall with towers are the ruins of a Classicist palace.

History

The prototype was a manor from the mid-16th century built by Rafał Ryterski; his daughter Anna brought it as a dowry to Stanisław Sobek, who between 1560 and 1570 erected a fortified residence. Inside are the ruins of a Classicist palace built by the Szaniawski family around 1770.

Architecture

Originally a defensive wall with four towers at the corners; today the remains of the walls and three towers covered with wooden roofs survive, with loopholes visible in the lower storeys.
