Tower and Relics of the Teutonic Castle in Człuchów

The remains of one of the largest defensive complexes of the Teutonic Knights (about 3 ha, second only to Malbork) in Człuchów - today dominated by the mighty tower of the High Castle (46 m).

History

Construction began after 1312, when the Order purchased Człuchów, and was completed around 1365. After a fire in 1793, the residents obtained permission from King Frederick William II to demolish it, and the bricks recovered were used to rebuild the burnt houses.
