Piast Tower in Opole

A cylindrical tower - the only surviving relic of the first Opole Piast castle on Pasieka Island (an area known as Ostrówek), on the site of today's amphitheatre.

History

Construction of the first castle was begun by Duke Casimir I of Opole around 1217. To this day only the cylindrical tower known as the Piast Tower has survived. The remaining part of the castle was dismantled.

Architecture

The tower is 42 m high and leans about 1.5 degrees from the vertical.
