Ruins of the Castle in Czudec

The ruins of a medieval knightly castle on a hill called Castle Hill (Zamczysko), south of Czudec, on the Wisłok.

History

In the early Middle Ages a timber-and-earth fortification existed here. The first mention dates from 1354 (the charter of Rzeszów). In the 14th century a Gothic, masonry castle was erected (possibly by the Bogoria or Gryf family); in the 16th century it was renovated in the Renaissance style. It was destroyed in 1657 during the Deluge by the forces of George II Rákóczi, and dismantled at the end of the 17th century.

Condition

Archaeological research has revealed the walls of the Gothic defensive towers and the gate tower from the 16th century.
