Ruins of Golesz Castle

The ruins of a medieval castle on a hill in a forest, in the village of Krajowice right on the border of Jasło, east of the Wisłoka (by national road no. 73).

History

Originally a stronghold, the castle was probably built after 1420 (the oldest mention of the place dates from 1319, in a document of Władysław Łokietek). The building served mainly as the seat of the starost administering the estates of the Benedictine abbey of Tyniec in the basin of the Wisłoka and Biała; it also housed a feudal court. It was probably destroyed during the invasion of the Transylvanian forces of George II Rákóczi in 1657.
