The Market Square in Kazimierz Dolny

Location and surroundings

The picturesque market square of Kazimierz Dolny on the Vistula is surrounded by Renaissance and Mannerist townhouses. The most famous are the Przybyla Brothers' Houses (under St. Nicholas and under St. Christopher) on the south-eastern frontage (nos. 12-14).

History

The Przybyla Brothers' Houses were created through a remodelling around 1615, carried out by the brothers Mikolaj and Krzysztof Przybyla, who had bought the buildings at the end of the 16th century. They represent the Late Renaissance (Mannerism), combining local traditions with Dutch and Italian influences; the facades are decorated with biblical figures and saints, and the buildings are crowned by some of the most beautiful Renaissance parapets in Poland.
