Old Market Square in Zielona Góra

Location and surroundings

The Old Market Square in Zielona Góra is surrounded by townhouses from various periods (from the 18th to the 20th century), with the Town Hall standing at its centre. Zielona Góra is one of the capitals of the Lubusz Voivodeship.

History

The town was laid out and planned along with the granting of town rights in the first half of the 13th century. The present town hall most probably dates from the 15th century in the Gothic style; the slender Gothic-Baroque tower was raised to 54 m in 1582 and rebuilt many times (among others in 1669 and 1777). The varied buildings of the square are the result of numerous fires that struck the town.
