Old Market Square in Gorzów Wielkopolski

Location and surroundings

The Old Market Square is the central square of the former Old Town, now the most important square of Gorzów Wielkopolski, with the cathedral and the Paucksch Fountain. Gorzów Wielkopolski is the seat of the Lubusz Voivode.

History

The square was probably laid out during the town's foundation in 1257, originally for commercial purposes (fairs and markets), gradually gaining a representative significance. By the square stands the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - one of the town's oldest monuments, erected in the 1260s; after the fire of 2017 it was renovated and reopened in 2021.
