Reszel is one of the former towns of Warmia (one of the 13 Warmian towns), with a well-preserved medieval urban layout. The market square forms the historic centre of the town, next to the Gothic castle of the Warmian bishops.
Near the market square stands Reszel Castle, which houses the 'Zamek' gallery presenting exhibitions of Polish artists.
The square is open to the public all year round.
