Market Square in Grudziądz

The market square in Grudziądz is a rectangular Old Town square measuring about 54 by 70 metres. The first houses by the square, dating from the early 14th century, were wooden, as was the town hall standing in the middle of the square.

Historical curiosity

On 21 March 1522, during the general assembly of Royal Prussia held in Grudziądz, Nicolaus Copernicus delivered a treatise on how good money is driven out by bad.

Present day

In 2010 the market square underwent revitalisation, during which the former paving was recreated and the plinth of the monument was reconstructed according to a pre-war design.
