Bodzentyn is a picturesque little town at the foot of Miejska Góra, on the edge of the Świętokrzyski National Park. The town was founded in the 14th century on the initiative of the Kraków bishop Bodzanta; soon after its chartering, a network of streets and a market square were laid out.
Bodzentyn, which is rare in the Świętokrzyskie region, has two market squares - the Lower Market Square and the Upper Market Square (the town's main square). The Upper Market Square is surrounded by historic buildings with characteristic passageway hallways with semicircular gates.
The square is open to the public all year round.
Bodzentyn lies on the edge of the Świętokrzyski National Park; the market square is in the town centre.
