Market Square in Tykocin

The Market Square in Tykocin (Stefan Czarniecki Square) has a trapezoidal layout preserved almost unchanged since the 18th century. The Baroque layout of the square was created after a fire in the town, thanks to the efforts of Jan Klemens Branicki, inspired by French urban design patterns.

Monument to Stefan Czarniecki

In the centre of the square stands the Baroque monument to Hetman Stefan Czarniecki, made of Szydłowiec sandstone, about 2 metres high. It was erected in 1763 through the foundation of Jan Klemens Branicki. It is the second oldest secular monument in Poland, after the Sigismund's Column in Warsaw.
