The Boyen Fortress is located in the western part of Giżycko, on the isthmus between Lake Niegocin and Lake Kisajno, in the heart of the Land of the Great Masurian Lakes. It is one of the best-preserved defensive structures of this type in Poland.
The fortress was built between 1843 and 1855. Its name commemorates the main initiator of its construction, the Prussian Minister of War, General Hermann von Boyen. The structure has the characteristic shape of a six-pointed star with six bastions, surrounded by a moat and a Carnot wall over 2 km long. In 1975 the fortress was listed as a monument of architecture.
Visitors can explore the bastion layout, the barracks, the Carnot wall, the powder magazines and the ramparts. Several tourist routes of varying length have been marked out across the grounds.

Summer season (May-Aug): 9:00-19:00; winter season (Sep-Apr): 9:00-16:00. The ticket office is open shorter than the site.
The site is within Giżycko, on Turystyczna Street; a paid car park for cars and coaches is by the main gate.
