Location and surroundings

The fortress rises above the village of Srebrna Góra in the Sudetes (the Owl Mountains/Bardo Mountains), on a mountain pass. It is one of the largest mountain fortresses in Europe, sometimes called the "Gibraltar of Silesia".

History

This is a rare example of a preserved European mountain fortress from the 18th century, built on rocky ground. It was part of the Prussian defensive system guarding the passage through the Sudetes.

Among the accessible parts are the bastions, the donjon and guided tours; a multimedia route presenting the construction of the fortress is also available.

From the pass to the fortress it is approx. 1 km uphill along an asphalt road (approx. 15 min on foot).
