The fortifications surround the historic Old Town of Zamość (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), in the Lublin Voivodeship. Bastion VII is the fortress's most powerful bastion.
The fortress was built between 1580 and 1618 on the initiative of Jan Zamoyski in the Italian style (an ideal city with a bastion system), expanded over the following centuries (approx. 250 years of fortification transformations).
An underground tourist route through the firing galleries and casemates of Bastion VII, a viewing terrace on the Cavalier and the "Arsenal" Museum of Fortifications and Weaponry.
