Location and surroundings

Fort Winiary, the largest fort of Poznań Fortress, rose on Winiary Hill above the city. Today the area forms Citadel Park in Poznań.

History

The Citadel (Fort Winiary) was built between 1828 and 1842 according to the so-called Prussian system; construction began on 23 June 1828. It occupied an area of approx. 100 ha.

What to see

Remains of the fort, war cemeteries, monuments and sculptures (including "The Unrecognised" by Magdalena Abakanowicz), the Peace Bell, as well as museums: the Museum of Armament and the "Poznań" Army Museum.
