Bunkers at Mamerki

Location and surroundings

Mamerki (Mauerwald) is a forest settlement about 8-10 km from Węgorzewo, on Lake Mamry, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. It is one of the best-preserved complexes of German World War II bunkers in Poland.

History

The complex (about 250 structures, including around 30 reinforced concrete shelters) was built between 1940 and 1944 as the headquarters of the High Command of the German Army (OKH) of the Wehrmacht. The bunkers have survived almost intact.

What to see

Bunkers open to visitors with their interiors and corridors, exhibitions (including models of the battles of Kursk and Stalingrad, communication and command shelters), a replica submarine and a 38-metre observation tower with a panorama of Lake Mamry.
