The Międzyrzecz Fortified Region (MRU) is a system of fortifications built by Germany in the 1930s. In the central section, the combat shelters (Pz.W.) are connected by a network of underground corridors with a total length of about 30 km.
The MRU tourist centre is located in Pniewo. The modern museum presents the history and unique natural value of the MRU (one of the largest winter bat colonies in Europe). Most of the underground routes start here.
Open all year, Mon-Sun 8:00-15:00, entries every 30 minutes (groups of up to 10 people). The underground temperature is a constant 10-12°C. Some corridors are closed during the bat hibernation period.
