Wędrowiec Shelter - the Westerplatte of the South

One of five combat shelters (Wędrowiec, Waligóra, Włóczęga, Wąwóz, Wyrwidąb) erected in the summer of 1939, just before the German attack on Poland. The garrison was the 151st fortress company under Capt. Tadeusz Semik. From 1 September, over three days, the defenders repelled the attacks of the 7th Bavarian Infantry Division; Węgierska Górka gained the name of the Westerplatte of the South.

Memorial Chamber

The Wędrowiec shelter is made available as a Memorial Chamber - a museum devoted to the fortifications of 1939 and the battles of the first days of the Second World War, with photographs, memorabilia of Capt. Semik, and the weapons and equipment of both sides.
