Location and surroundings

The castle is located in Malbork in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, on the Nogat River, at ul. Staroscinska 1. It is the largest brick castle in the world and one of the most important Gothic monuments in Poland.

History

The castle was erected by the Teutonic Order as its seat (convent), and from 1309 it became the capital of the monastic state and the residence of the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order. The structure developed from the end of the 13th century, forming an extensive complex of the High Castle, Middle Castle and Outer Bailey. After the Thirteen Years' War, in 1457, the castle came under Polish rule. The site has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
