The castle rises on a hill above the town of Bolków, at ul. Zamkowa 1, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Its characteristic cylindrical tower with a beak dominates the surroundings.
The castle was built in the Middle Ages as a stronghold of the Świdnica-Jawor dukes of the Silesian Piast dynasty. It belonged to the region's system of defensive castles. The now preserved, partly reconstructed ruins are open to visitors as a branch of the Karkonosze Museum in Jelenia Góra.
